Today it is accepted construction practice to build new net zero energy homes and buildings. With existing technologies it is possible to retrofit the existing building stock for 30-40% increased energy efficiency. By including renewable sources, like solar, it is possible to bring existing buildings to net zero energy efficiency, too. But right now, navigating the maze of rebates, municipal programs, and manufacturer incentives is still too difficult. Finding the important information and coordinating various stakeholders is too complicated. Meeting important energy conservation goals is still too expensive.

dojo4 worked with Snugg Home to architect and build comprehensive online software for utility companies and public sector energy programs to run their energy optimization and home-retrofitting programs. The Snugg Home platform is for homeowners, contractors, and program administrators. It includes customer relationship management tools, an analytics suite for real-time program performance analysis, energy audit mechanisms with logins, and powerful dashboards for each type of stakeholder.

dojo4 provided the broad expertise Snugg Home’s founders needed to build out their platform. We served as a one-stop CTO, product development team, staffing agency and software engineering partner. Our engineering effort included building a Ruby on Rails application integrated with several third-party APIs; working on various ExpressionEngine content management systems; producing powerful front-end JavaScript; and supporting an ongoing, multi-phase launch. Months (and thousands of lines of code) later, we are delighted to see Snugg Home thriving, attracting business from customers across the U.S., and keeping an excellent in-house development team very busy.
