Windowfarms recipients were sent a QR code, which resolved to a mobile-optimized site allowing them to register their farm and determine which plants would suit their climate.

dojo4 received an early Holiday gift this year!

After a successful round of Kickstarter funding, Windowfarms, a NYC-based startup, issued dojo4 a challenge: build a QR-triggered, web-based, mobile-friendly application that would allow users to register while helping them decide on plants best-suited to their window's microclimate. Simple, right?

Oh, and it needs to be ready by Christmas (two weeks).

Obviously, the latter criterion was the kicker. But it's precisely the kind of driver that makes dojo4's stable of devs and designers jump up and dance. In this case, Ara, Anthony, and Brett were all doing the lindy hop.

But, rain dances alone don't yield successful apps. To be sure, a client like Britta Riley, CEO of Windowfarms, is a key nutrient.

Britta and her team worked tirelessly—sometimes through the night—to ensure dojo4 had the content and data needed to seed the app. This allowed us to take a mobile-first approach and all but eliminated the need for lorem ipsum placeholders.

Indeed, to their credit, the Windowfarms team willingly pruned the project's scope, keeping things manageable while still allowing room for growth.

We certainly look forward to helping the app blossom in 2012!
